Clear Gutters

Over summer, with less rain than normal, the gutters can get clogged with debris, from leaves, dirt, and even things like a bird’s nest. And with autumn, comes more leaves falling. And if your gutter gets blocked and then winter comes and freezes everything, then it can lead to some costly damage. As well as potential leaks and mould inside the home. So get the gutters cleared. You can do it yourself if you have a tall enough ladder. If not leave it to the professionals.

Check Fireplace

If you are lucky enough to live in a home that has a fireplace, then it is a good idea to get that checked too. Much like a gutter, it can cause damage if it is blocked. And if you try to use it when the temperatures drop, it can even be bad for your health if the smoke can’t escape. So this is an important check to make, especially as you won’t have used your fireplace for quite a while.

Feel For Draughts

When the weather is warm and you have been having the windows wide open, it isn’t a time that you are normally feeling for draughts. But when it comes to the weather getting cooler, draughts can be a real pain.

They’ll make the house cooler and mean that your home is less energy efficient with the hot air leaving right away. So close all windows and doors on a breezy day. And put your hand around them to feel for a breeze. If there are any, now is the time to get them (windows and doors) fixed or replaced, before the temperatures drop.
